Having said that, we are going to explain how to remove the catalytic converter from your motorcycle, so that from today you can remove it and put it back whenever you want. So, let's get started!

What is the function of a motorcycle catalytic converter?

The catalytic converter is one of the most important components of a motorcycle, since its function is to protect the environment.

Motorcycle catalytic converter

Its function is to reduce the level of pollution produced by the gases that come out of your motorcycle while you are riding it. This is achieved by the catalytic converter through a process which purifies and cleans the gases, thus managing to reduce almost to a minimum the level of pollution of these gases expelled by the motorcycle.

Therefore, as we can see, the function of the catalytic converter is very important and that is why we do not recommend its removal. But it is true that to carry out its function, it reduces the power of the bike and the noise it produces and that is why many people choose to remove it. If this is your case, having explained all this, let's explain how to remove it, let's go there!

Steps to follow to remove the catalytic converter from your motorcycle

To remove the catalytic converter from your bike, in principle you will only need a screwdriver suitable for the screws of your bike. Once you have one, the steps to follow are as follows:

  1. First of all you will have to locate where exactly is the catalytic converter of your bike. It is usually located at the end of the exhaust pipe, but we recommend that you consult the instruction manual of your bike, so you will know where to find it much easier and faster.
  2. Once you know where it is, you must disassemble the exhaust pipe with the help of the screwdriver, removing the screws that hold it to the bike.
  3. Once the exhaust is disassembled, you must uncrack and remove the catalytic converter by pressing out slowly and very careful not to break anything when removing it.
  4. Now, take the catalytic converter and remove the cylinder that is usually ceramic, which is responsible for carrying out the purification and cleaning of gases. After removing the cylinder, empty all the remaining contents inside. And also take the opportunity to clean the exhaust.
  5. And finally, once the catalytic converter is completely empty and the exhaust is clean, you must reassemble the catalytic converter on the exhaust pipe, and this on your bike. And now put back all the screws that you removed at the beginning, leaving the exhaust perfectly mounted again.

As you can see, it is very easy to remove the catalytic converter from a motorcycle. But we want to remind you again, that it is not advisable to carry it out, because your bike will pollute much more and you will probably have problems when passing the ITV and you can be fined.
