Kids motorcycle helmets

A kids' motorcycle helmet must meet the same ECE approval as an adult one, but with a shell and lining made for a small head and as little weight as possible, because a child's neck copes with less. Here you will find NZI's Helix and Single II open-face helmets for children and the Activy youth full-face, with dinosaur, animal or world-map designs to make them want to wear it. A bicycle helmet is no substitute: it is not approved for motorcycles.

From what age can a child ride as a passenger?

In Spain, children can ride on a motorcycle or moped from the age of 12, and from 7 if the rider is their parent, guardian or an adult authorised by them. In every case they need an approved helmet, must sit astride and must be able to rest their feet on the footpegs: if they cannot reach, it is too soon. The minimum age varies from country to country, so check the rules wherever you will be riding.

Size and fit

Measure round their head and choose from the chart on the product page, never a size up for them to grow into: a helmet that is too big moves and can come off in a fall. The Helix and Single II come in junior sizes S and L, and the Activy from XXS to M. Check that the strap is tight under the chin and that your child can tell you if anything pinches. For longer trips or main roads, consider a full-face helmet, which also shields the face from the wind. Our guide to motorcycle helmets answers everything else, and the open-face helmets also include the kids' Bambino.
