Motorcycle Levers

Motorcycle levers are what your fingers touch every time you brake or pull the clutch, so changing them shows in the feel, in how your hand rests on the bar and, if the bike ever goes down, in whether you can still ride it home. Here you will find clutch and brake levers from Puig and Rizoma: fixed, short, folding and extendable, in black, titanium and a range of anodised colours. This guide covers which shape suits you and how they fit your bike.

Fixed, short, folding or extendable

• Fixed: a single piece, roughly the length of the stock lever. It suits riders who want a new colour and more adjustment without a different feel.
• Short: room for two fingers and a track-bike look. On a strong front brake it is more than enough; on a heavy cable clutch, though, a shorter lever means more effort from your hand.
• Folding: the tip is hinged, so if the bike tips over or takes a knock it gives way and folds instead of snapping. It is the one you will be most grateful for on an adventure bike, in town and on a first bike.
• Folding and extendable: adds a tip that slides in or out so the lever matches the size of your hand. In Puig's 4.0 range it is among the best sellers.

Span adjustment: how far it sits from the grip

Aftermarket levers move closer to or further from the grip with a dial that has several positions, something many stock bikes lack or only offer on the brake side. For small hands, thick winter gloves or two-finger braking, that span matters more than the shape. On Puig's 3.0 series the adjuster dial is also sold on its own, in several colours, as a spare or to match other parts of the bike.

How they fit each bike

No lever is universal straight out of the box: every bike has its own master cylinder, pivot and way of triggering the brake light or clutch switch. There are two ways round it.

Puig 4.0, 3.0 and Heritage: lever plus adapter

Puig makes the lever body the same for every bike and fits it with a model-specific adapter kit, sold separately. Choose the shape and colour first, then find yours among the Puig lever adapters, where each product page lists the bikes and years it fits. The Heritage range, with a classic look for neo-retro bikes, has adapters of its own. All of the brand's series, finishes and combinations are explained on the Puig levers page.

Puig Off-Road and scooter levers: ready to fit

The Off-Road levers, for motocross and enduro bikes, and the pairs for scooters such as the Forza 125 or the Vespa GTS come already matched to their bike. On a scooter both levers work a brake, one for each wheel, so the set has no clutch lever.

Rizoma: one part for each model

Rizoma machines every lever for a specific bike, with no adapter, in three lines, 3D, Adjustable Plus and RRC, finished in black, silver or gold depending on the model. It also makes some unusual parts, such as the parking brake lever for the TMAX or a 3D brake lever prepared for a remote adjuster. You will find them all among the Rizoma brake and clutch levers.

Before you order

Are they sold in pairs?

It depends on the range: with Puig 3.0 and 4.0 levers you choose on the product page whether you want the brake lever, the clutch lever or the full set, while Rizoma and Off-Road levers are sold individually. Each product page makes it clear.

Do they work with hydraulic and cable clutches?

Yes, as long as there is a version or adapter for your bike: the model-specific part takes care of the difference, which is why the year and version matter. If your bike has an aftermarket master cylinder or is a grey import, message us on the chat before ordering.

What if the tip breaks?

On folding levers, the tip and the small parts that hold it can be replaced without binning the whole lever: you will find them among the Puig lever spares. If you ride on track, a brake lever guard stops contact with another bike from pulling your front brake, and a set of new grips completes the change of feel at the bars.
