Motorcycle tank pads

A tank pad is an adhesive protector that sticks over the paint so it does not get marked by your jacket zip, trouser buckles or the base of a tank bag. Depending on where it goes, it also gives your knees more grip. Here you will find Puig tank pads, from designer tank stickers to side tank grips shaped for each bike, in clear, black, carbon look or colours.

Centre or side: two different jobs

A centre tank pad sits on top, just in front of the seat, exactly where your chest rubs when you tuck in over the tank. It is the most decorative kind: Puig offers designs such as Wings, Spirit, Joker, Skull, Violent or the Marc Márquez MM93, plus Pro and Pro 2 versions cut for recent bikes such as the Hornet, ZX-6R or MT-07, in black or clear so the bike keeps its colour.

Side tank pads, often called tank grips or knee pads, go on the flanks of the tank, where your legs rest. Their textured surface holds your knees under hard braking and as you shift your weight through corners, which takes load off your wrists. Puig makes them for specific sports, naked and adventure bikes such as the YZF-R1, CB650R, Multistrada V4 or V-Strom 650, and you will find them together under Puig side tank pads.

Model-specific, universal or a sheet to cut

• Model-specific: follows the shape of the tank on one model and set of years, so it fits without trimming.
• Universal design: a compact piece that suits the flat area of almost any tank.
• Adhesive sheet: cut it to your own shape, handy for covering the area around the filler cap or where a bag sits.

If you often ride with one of our tank bags, a pad stops the dust trapped under its base from sanding the paint. All the brand's centre designs are under Puig tank pads.

Fitting it so it lasts

1. Wash the area and degrease it with isopropyl alcohol: any trace of wax will stop the adhesive from bonding.
2. Work at a mild temperature, with the tank neither cold nor baking in the sun.
3. Offer the pad up with the backing still on and mark its position with masking tape.
4. Stick it from the centre outwards to push the air out, and wait until the next day before washing the bike.

To remove one, warm it with a hair dryer and peel it off slowly; leftover adhesive comes away with a dedicated remover, without scraping the paint. For the rest of the parts that personalise your bike, browse our motorcycle accessories.
