Motorcycle Belly Pans

A motorcycle belly pan is the piece of bodywork that sits under the engine, between the front wheel and the exhaust. On naked bikes, which leave the factory without a fairing, it fills that gap, hides part of the headers and makes the bike look lower, with a profile closer to a sports bike. Here you will find Puig belly pans, each made for a specific model and range of years.

What it actually does

First and foremost, it changes the side profile of the bike more than almost any other accessory. It also shields the bottom of the engine and the headers from the stones and dirt thrown up by the front wheel. Its aerodynamic effect at legal speeds is small, so do not expect extra stability. In racing the term means something else: a lower fairing that holds the oil if the engine fails, compulsory in many championships.

Belly pan or bash plate

The two are sometimes confused. A belly pan is a light piece of bodywork, made for tarmac and for looks. A bash plate, or sump guard, is a sturdy plate bolted under the engine of adventure bikes to take hits from rocks and ledges off road. If you are heading off the tarmac, the second is what you need.

Matt black, black or carbon look

Puig makes them in three finishes, and the last letter of the part number tells you which: J for matt black, N for gloss black and C for carbon look. Matt black blends in with the engine and frame and is the best seller; carbon look suits bikes that already have carbon details or a carbon exhaust.

There are no universal belly pans that look right: each one follows the shape of the engine and headers of its bike.

Before fitting it

Check the year and version, because the 2021-2024 MT-07 and the 2025 model take different belly pans. If you have swapped the stock exhaust for a full system, the headers are no longer original and the belly pan may not fit: check the product page or ask us. The same goes if you run crash bars that drop down the sides of the engine, as they may share mounting points. Fitting usually needs only basic tools. The brand's full selection is also on the Puig belly pans page, within the wider range of Puig accessories.
