At ACMOTOS, you can find the best accessories for your motorbike. Of course, to enjoy them, you need a motorbike and a driving license. If you don't have a motorbike license or are unsure about what license is needed to drive the model you want, we're going to help you in this article.

Here you will find information about the different types of motorbike licenses that exist. In addition, we will show you the requirements they ask for and also the motorbikes you can drive with each of these types of motorbike licenses.

To drive a motorbike, there are three different types of motorbike licenses, A1, A2 and A. Let's look at each of these licenses separately.

AM License

This license is the new Moped Permit. The AM license can be obtained at 15 years old and allows you to drive 2 or 3 wheel mopeds as well as light quads with an engine up to 50cc. It's important to note that you won't be able to carry passengers until you turn 18.

To obtain this license, you must pass a psychophysical aptitude test, as well as a specific knowledge control test. You will also need to pass a practical test to control skills and behaviour on a closed circuit.

A1 License

The A1 license is the most basic motorcycle license. This is usually the first license obtained to drive a motorbike for the first time. As it is the most basic license, obviously, you will not be able to drive all the motorbikes you want with it.

With the A1 license you can drive motorcycles without a sidecar that do not exceed 125cc. In addition, the maximum power of the motorcycles you can drive with this license is 11KW and that have a power/weight ratio of 0.1 KW/KG.

With this A1 motorbike license, you can also drive tricycles with an engine that does not exceed 15KW of power. To get this license, you must be over 16 years old. Once you get your A1 license, your AM license, which allows you to drive mopeds, will also be immediately validated.

To obtain the A1 license, you must pass a psychophysical aptitude test. In addition to this, you will also have to pass a knowledge test, both general and specific to the motorbike. Finally, it is also necessary to pass a test, both on a closed circuit and on open roads to traffic.

To take the circuit test, you must have passed the theoretical test. To take the open road test, you must have passed the test on the closed circuit.

A2 License

The A2 license is another type of motorcycle license you can obtain in Spain. To get this license you must be over 18 years old. With this license you can drive motorcycles, with or without a sidecar, with a maximum power of 35KW, about 47HP. The power-to-weight ratio of the motorcycle you can drive will be, at most, 0.2KW/Kg.

As with the previous license, having the A2 license also allows you to enjoy the A1 and AM license.

To obtain the A2 license, the tests are the same as for the A1 license, but there are some differences. If you want to get the A2 motorcycle license and you already have the A1 permit, you will not have to take the specific knowledge control test if no more than 2 years have passed since you took it, as it would be the same and considered passed.

Otherwise, you will need to undergo the psychophysical aptitude test, and the tests on a closed circuit and open roads to traffic just like with the previous license.

A License

The A motorcycle license is the most important of all motorcycle licenses. With this motorcycle license in Spain you can drive any type of motorcycle without power limit or weight limitation.

To get the A license, you must be at least, 20 years old. Additionally, you need to have a minimum experience of 2 years with the A2 permit and pass a specific training. In case you want to ride motor tricycles over 15W, you have to wait until you are 21 years old.

In addition to the age, to obtain the A license you must complete a course that lasts 9 lecture hours. These hours are divided between theoretical and practical knowledge.

The theoretical knowledge to obtain the A license is divided into 2 parts, one part with the general theory and another part for awareness and sensitivity. Each part lasts an hour and a half, for a total of 3 hours of course.

The practical knowledge is divided into 2 tests. The first will be 4 hours of maneuvers on a closed circuit and the second 2 hours of driving on open roads to traffic. These tests will be carried out on a motorcycle without a sidecar of, at least, 600cc and 40KW of power.

To take the tests, you will need to bring a full-face helmet, gloves, bootsmotorcyclist jacket and trousers along with all the protections, equipment that you can find at ACMOTOS. Additionally, during the test, you will wear a homologated reflective vest with the letter P on the back for practices.
