Which motorcycle gloves should I buy?

There are lots of motorcycle gloves, that’s why it’s normal to have doubts about which ones you should choose. In this brief guide, you’ll see the main features in which they divide.

Season: Winter or summer gloves?

You’ll see that there are gloves for summer as well for winter. The winter ones are made with a thermal cover and waterproof to avoid the penetration of cold and avoid getting your hands frozen. On the other hand, we have the summer ones, which are made with breathable materials to better ventilate your hands and avoid heat and avoid the gloves wetting wet due to sweat.

The number of protections that they’ll include depends on the season. Usually it’s said that the winter ones are safer because they are thicker, nevertheless a good summer glove can protect you more than one cheap winter glove.

Protections

The number of protections the glove has will determine the safety of the glove in possible falls. The gloves can have knuckle, palm, and back of the hand protection, and they’re made from different materials: Carbon, PVC, silicon, foam, titanium… You’ll find gloves with no protections, these are only recommendable for urban use, if you’re going to go regularly on the road you better choose to go well protected.

Gender: ¿Gloves for men or women?

The models are divided if they’re specific for men or women. Anatomically, the sizes of our hands are different and, for so, the sizing should be different. Men’s glove could be from the XS size up to XXXL, while for women can go from XXXS up to L.

Impermeability

There’s nothing more annoying while you go on a bike than getting wet by a sudden rain. For so, some gloves are equipped with a waterproof lining which will keep your hands dry under any circumstance. As a general rule, the winter gloves are waterproof. Summer ones, due to them being breathable, they’re not usually waterproof.

Short or long cane?

The cane is the back part of the glove (by which you get your hand in). Short caned gloves are those that barely covers the wrist, while long cane gloves are those which cover part of the forearm. The difference is obvious, the long caned ones protects more, for both temperature and possible scratches due to falling. Also, they’re the ones who produce more heat, that’s why summer gloves tend to be short caned and the winter ones long caned.
