Should I buy motorcycle grips?

What is the throttle tube?

In the right grip (the throttle one) there is the throttle tube. It is a plastic cylinder that is under the rubber grip that allows it to rotate, and, therefore, accelerate the motorcycle. This throttle tube varies depending on the model of motorcycle you have. Many grips come with it’s integrated throttle tube (which can not be disassembled) and comes with adapters to different models so you can adapt it.

Should I buy grips with or without a throttle tube?

The grips without throttle tube (rubber only) are quite easy to install. Just remove the original grip with the help of an air compressor and replace it with the new ones, using the factory tube. Instead, the grips with integrated tubes require disassembling the lights controls (right next to the grip).

If I buy grips without the tube, may I encounter problems?

You might encounter some issues if the factory stem (tube) of your motorcycle is grooved or serrated, that is, protruding plastic inserts that fit the interior shape of the original grip. The aftermarket grips come completely smooth in their interior, that’s why when installing them on the stock tubes you would feel bumps. In that case there are two options, either with a an exacto knife or sandpaper, remove those bumps, or buy a smooth tube that fits your motorcycle. The usual is that the stock rods have small stripes that are not noticeable when the new grip is installed, but it can happen if the grooves are too big.

If I buy grips with a tube, can I install them without problems on my motorcycle?

The grips with tube included have several adapters so you can mount it on your bike without problems, however sometimes they require small adjustments to fit perfectly. If you have a Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Aprilia, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco or other well-known brands, they should fit just right.

Is there any difference between those that are completely rubber and those that have metal inserts?

The biggest difference is in aesthetics. The metallic inserts give a more racing and personalized touch, since they can be purchased in different colors. Apart from the aesthetic differences, the metal does not deteriorate with time, unlike the rubber, so they tend to have greater durability. As against, the metal is less grippy than the rubber, although it is a factor that is hardly noticeable when driving.

Are they the same length as the stock ones?

It does not have to, the length of the grips can vary depending on the bike model. In each product you can see its measurements and compare them with those of your motorcycle. If it is another measure, you may have problems with the throttle tube. Although the measurements are usually quite standard, we recommend checking it before buying them and, in case of doubt, contact us.
