Tips and previous advice to adjust the mirrors of your motorcycle to perfection

Now we are going to give you a series of tips and details to take into account before adjusting your motorcycle mirrors:

  • The position of the mirrors will depend on the perspective of your eyes, not everyone has the same perspective and that is why you need to find out the one that best suits you regardless of how others do.
  • For that you will have to take into account things like your usual riding position. The type of motorcycle as the mirrors will not have the same position on a sport bike than on a custom bike, so you will have to place yourself in your usual position to be able to adjust them to perfection.
  • You will have to adjust your mirrors in a totally straight and flat place, without any curve or slope, where you can see the horizon. In this way you will be able to place it taking into account what you see behind you perfectly, which is what we want to achieve in the end.
  • You should also pay attention to the shape and position of the mirrors. There are mirrors that are round and their range of vision is much smaller than curved drop mirrors or rectangular mirrors, which have a much larger field of vision. So it depends on how they are, you will have to adjust them in one way or another.
  • And also to be able to make sure that they are well adjusted, we recommend that they are well cleaned before adjusting them, so that you can easily and perfectly see that what you see in the mirrors is what you need to see while driving. And at this point we will also add that they are not broken or full of scratches that hinder your visibility and your safety.

How to adjust the right and left mirrors of your motorcycle?

Before we tell you how to adjust the mirrors, you should keep in mind that you should always do it before starting and never in motion. If the situation arises that they become out of adjustment while you are riding, you should stop as soon as possible and adjust them while stopped, so that you are not distracted and can cause an accident.

Having said and emphasized this, let's see how to adjust the mirrors so that they are correctly:

  • Right mirror: This mirror should be placed a little more closed than the left one, so that you can see both the lane on your right perfectly and the lane in which you are located. This way you will be able to have both lanes under control and know what is happening to your right and behind you.
  • Left mirror: This mirror needs to be placed a little more open than the right one, so that you can see the entire left lane. With this you will be able to see those who are going to overtake you so that you go with caution and also be able to look before overtaking you and that you can do it in a totally safe way.

Last recommendations on the mirrors of your motorcycle

And finally, we are going to give you a couple of recommendations so that once they are well placed, you will not have any problem or inconvenience with your mirrors.

  • The first thing we want to comment, is that even if you place your mirrors perfectly, there are points or blind spots in which we can not reach to see through the mirrors of our motorcycle. To avoid problems with this, we recommend that when you find yourself at that point, with great caution make a quick head turn so you can have those dead angles under control and you can make your maneuvers without running any kind of risk.
  • And finally, we recommend that you have installed homologated rear-view mirrors, because otherwise, you may be fined and you will not be able to pass the ITV with those mirrors. Although it is really difficult to be fined while riding your motorcycle, it can happen. To pass the ITV, most people keep their homologated mirrors and when they have to pass the ITV they put them back, and once they pass it, they put back the non homologated ones. If you are interested in buying new mirrors, we recommend Puig mirrors, as they are of high quality and have all kinds of styles and designs, were you can find both homologated and not homologated.
