Motorcycle wind deflectors

Motorcycle wind deflectors are clear, tinted or opaque panels fitted to the fairing, screen or handlebar to redirect the air that the main windscreen does not stop. They do not make the protection taller, they make it wider: the airflow is pushed past your shoulders, legs or hands. Everything in this section is made by Puig for a specific model, mainly large adventure and touring bikes: BMW GS models, Yamaha Ténéré 700, Honda NT1100 and Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger or Ducati Multistrada.

Where the wind bothers you

• Shoulders and arms: the air spilling off the edges of the screen hits you from the sides. This is what the Extended front deflectors are for, extending the front end outwards, and they cover the most models.
• Upper body: the smaller upper deflectors fine-tune the airflow higher up on BMW's GS models, the Tiger 900 or several KTMs.
• Legs and feet: lower deflectors close the gap under the fairing, exactly where the cold bites first; they exist for the Road Glide, F 900 XR and R 1300 GS.
• Hands: some mid-range BMWs, from the F 750 GS to the F 900 XR, have handlebar deflectors.

For the boxer GS, from the R 1200 to the R 1300, the range is rounded off by rear deflectors that are not see-through: grey, matt black or carbon-effect.

What a deflector will not fix

If the blast hits your helmet head-on, or the screen causes noise and buffeting, the problem is its height or shape, and the screen itself is what needs looking at: we explain how in motorcycle windscreens. And if it is your fingers that freeze on a bike without handlebar deflectors, the answer is a set of handguards.

Before you order

There are no universal models: each set follows the shape of the fairing it was designed for, and sometimes differs between versions of the same bike, such as the R 1300 GS and the R 1300 GS Adventure. For the tint, the practical choice is to match your screen, or go clear if you want them to go unnoticed. What each colour letter means and the rest of the range are covered under Puig deflectors.
