Sprint Filter

Sprint Filter air filters replace the airbox filter with an oil-free polyester one: you wash it, let it dry and refit it, instead of throwing it away and buying another. What makes the difference is not the brand, which you have already chosen, but the range, because each one strikes a different balance between airflow and engine protection.

How to read a Sprint Filter part number

Every filter has a model code, such as PM169 or SM225, and an ending that tells you the range:

• Ends in S: the P08 range, the most widespread, for road riding and everyday use.
• Ends in S F1-85: the P08F1-85 range, with the highest airflow and a racing origin.
• Ends in P14: the P14 range, for trail bikes and dusty routes.
• Ends in T12: the T12 range, the most protective, for dirt and harsh conditions.

Choose by use, not by bike

The same bike often exists in several ranges: the Yamaha XMAX 300 and Tricity 300 come in P08 and P14, and the Triumph Bonneville Bobber and Speedmaster come in P08, P08F1-85 and P14. So the question is not which filter your bike takes, but how much dust it breathes and how much air it asks for: road, track or dirt.

What to expect

On a standard bike a high-flow filter does not change its character; it pays off alongside a free-flow exhaust and a tuned map, and if you have modified the intake it is worth talking to your tuner. Its everyday advantage is practical: it needs no oil and is cleaned by hand following the maker's instructions, and the more dust you breathe in, the more often it needs doing.
