Accessories for the BMW G 650 Xchallenge

The BMW G 650 Xchallenge is an off-road-focused bike that also has to cover the road miles between trails. That mix puts particular emphasis on riding position, the support you get from the footpegs and how the suspension responds. It also makes it worth thinking about how you look after the bike between outings. This page brings together accessories for Xchallenge bikes from 2007 to 2009, whether most of your riding is on tracks or on the roads that lead to them.

What riders usually fit to the BMW G 650 Xchallenge

For this sort of riding, the most useful changes are often the ones you feel rather than see. Some affect the way you stand and steer on a trail; others are relevant to changing surfaces or to looking after the bike once you are home.

• Handlebars: moving between seated road riding and standing on the pegs changes how you reach the controls. A different handlebar can help shape a riding position that works for both, particularly if your routes involve frequent changes of surface.
• Footpegs: these become your main point of support when you stand up over uneven ground. For regular trail use, suitable footpegs can make it easier to keep a secure footing while moving your weight around the Xchallenge.
• Suspension: a rutted track asks something different of the bike from a stretch of tarmac. Suspension options let you focus its response on the surfaces you ride most often, rather than treating every outing as a road ride.
• Filters: dust is part of many off-road days, making filtration a useful consideration in routine upkeep. If trails feature regularly in your riding, filters deserve a place alongside the parts that affect how the bike feels.
• Covers: care does not end when you leave the trail. A cover helps keep the Xchallenge sheltered while it is parked between rides, especially when your next outing is not straight away.

Start with the parts that affect your contact with the bike if you often switch between road and trail. Then consider what your usual routes ask of its suspension and upkeep.
