Accessories for the BMW K1200 LT

The BMW K1200 LT is a touring motorcycle suited to covering long distances on the road, including trips with a passenger and luggage. A day’s riding also involves stops, parking and getting ready to set off again. Those moments shape which accessories are useful: for this bike, protection during low-speed manoeuvres and a secure place to leave it between rides deserve as much thought as the miles themselves.

What riders usually fit to the BMW K1200 LT

The accessories available for this model include two types that address different parts of touring life. Neither is about changing the character of the ride; both are relevant when a trip involves repeated stops and time spent organising your gear.

• Protectors: Riding a touring bike means negotiating forecourts, parking spaces and stopping points along the route, often before or after dealing with luggage. Protectors help look after the areas they are designed to cover during these everyday situations. They are worth considering if your journeys involve frequent stops, as well as the slower manoeuvres at the beginning and end of a day on the road.
• Stands and side stands: Once you reach a stop, you may need to park the K1200 LT while you remove your riding kit, sort out luggage or prepare for the next leg. This type of accessory is concerned with how the bike is supported when stationary. It is particularly relevant to riders who move between longer tours and shorter outings, with the bike parked at different points throughout the journey.

Think about your usual stops as well as your riding days. That makes it easier to decide whether protecting the bike during manoeuvres or supporting it while parked matters more to you.
