Accessories for the BMW K 1600 GT

Long motorway stretches, winding roads and holidays with a pillion are natural territory for the BMW K 1600 GT. As a touring motorcycle, it suits riders who spend extended periods in the saddle. Accessories that manage airflow, protect exposed areas and support comfortable use of the controls are therefore more relevant to its everyday role than purely cosmetic changes.

What riders usually fit to the BMW K 1600 GT

• Windscreens: A screen helps redirect airflow around your upper body and helmet on motorway sections. For a K 1600 GT used on long-distance trips, wind protection deserves particular attention because you may spend hours riding at a steady cruising pace.
• Protectors: These help limit damage to the areas they cover from minor knocks or stationary drops. They are worth considering for the slower parts of touring, such as manoeuvring with luggage or parking somewhere unfamiliar at the end of a day.
• Stands and side stands: Parking support matters on journeys punctuated by fuel stops, rest breaks and overnight stays. These accessories address the practical side of stopping and unloading a touring bike, rather than what happens while you are covering miles.
• Levers: Leaving the motorway for a mountain pass brings more frequent braking and clutch use. Lever shape affects how your hands engage with the controls, making this a useful area to consider for days that include plenty of winding roads.
• Covers and blankets: A motorcycle cover is useful when your K 1600 GT spends the night parked during a multi-day trip. It also helps keep dirt off the bike between tours if it is not your daily transport.

When considering a windscreen, account for your height and riding position. On a touring bike, managing airflow should go hand in hand with keeping a clear view of the road ahead.
