Accessories for the BMW M 1000 XR

The BMW M 1000 XR brings a sporting approach to road touring, with an upright riding position suited to both winding routes and longer days away. Accessories should reflect that balance: managing wind exposure on motorway stretches, keeping the riding position comfortable and protecting exposed areas all deserve attention alongside changes to the bike's appearance.

What riders usually fit to the BMW M 1000 XR

• Screens: Wind protection becomes a priority when a day on twisty roads starts with a long motorway run. On the upright M 1000 XR, think about how much of your riding involves sustained exposure to the wind, rather than judging a screen by its looks alone.
• Protectors, crash bobbins and crash bars: Touring brings regular stops, parking manoeuvres and unfamiliar places to leave the bike. These accessories aim to shield vulnerable areas during an accidental tip-over or low-speed fall, making protection worth considering even when your main interest is riding on open roads.
• Levers: Your hands work the controls through bends and the towns between them. Lever choice is an opportunity to tailor that contact point, with hand comfort deserving particular attention when your M 1000 XR outings stretch from a short morning ride into a full day away.
• Footrests: Secure footing matters during more active riding on winding roads, but leg comfort still counts on the journey home. For this blend of sport and touring, consider foot support and riding position together rather than focusing on cornering alone.
• Phone mounts: Navigation is useful when a route links mountain passes, village stops and overnight accommodation. A mount keeps the phone supported at the riding position; place it clear of the instruments and stop before making changes to your route.
