Accessories for the BMW R 100 RT

The BMW R 100 RT is a touring motorcycle suited to covering distance on the road. On a long ride, the way the bike feels from one bend to the next matters as much as the destination. Changes in road surface, a pillion and luggage can all shape what you want from it. That makes suspension and brakes particularly relevant areas to consider when looking at accessories for this model: both affect how confidently and comfortably you can settle into a day’s riding.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 100 RT

• Suspension: touring rarely means riding on one type of road all day. A route might take you from a smooth main road onto unevener stretches, or from a solo outing to a trip with a pillion. Suspension accessories give you a way to focus on how the R 100 RT responds in those situations. On winding roads, the aim is a ride that feels settled through successive bends; over longer distances, it is also about finding a response you are comfortable living with for hours.
• Brakes: road trips call for measured slowing as well as steady cruising. Think of approaching a series of bends, riding through a town midway through a route or managing your speed on a long descent. With a pillion or luggage aboard, a brake response you can judge easily becomes particularly valuable. Brake accessories are therefore worth considering in the context of how you tour on this BMW, rather than simply how it feels on a short local ride.

Öhlins and Braking are among the accessory brands listed for the R 100 RT. Whether your journeys are mostly solo or often shared, the most useful starting point is the kind of roads and distances you actually ride.
