Accessories for the BMW R1100 S

The BMW R1100 S has a sporting character but is also at home on longer rides. A day on winding roads asks different things of your bike from a trip with luggage, while everyday journeys bring their own considerations. The accessories worth fitting depend on where you ride, how long you spend in the saddle and what you need to take with you.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R1100 S

There is no need to set it up in the same way for an afternoon ride and a few days away. These accessory types address different sides of riding the R1100 S:

• Protectors: useful when a bike ridden for pleasure also has to cope with parking and low-speed manoeuvres. They help look after particular areas against scuffs and minor knocks, without being tied to one kind of journey.
• Suspension: worth considering if your rides mix bends, longer stretches of road and the occasional load of luggage. Suspension components can affect how settled the bike feels as those conditions change.
• Handlebar accessories: the points where your hands meet the bike matter more as the miles add up. This area is particularly relevant if you enjoy a spirited ride but also spend whole days travelling.
• Luggage: cases give you somewhere to carry what you need for time away. They suit the R1100 S when a ride becomes a trip and you want to stop without having to organise everything you have brought.
• Stands and side-stand accessories: useful for looking after the bike between rides, whether that means positioning it in the garage or carrying out maintenance. They also make sense if your R1100 S is not ridden every day.
• Covers: a practical consideration when the bike spends time parked between weekend outings. They help shelter it while it waits for the next ride, especially if your riding is seasonal rather than part of a daily routine.

Think about the journeys you actually make. The balance between protection, comfort and carrying space will differ for a favourite twisting road and a longer journey away.
