Accessories for the BMW R 12

The BMW R 12 is a cruiser suited to unhurried road rides, weekend outings and everyday journeys. What you fit should reflect the balance between town riding and time on the open road. Wind protection becomes more relevant as journeys get longer, while comfortable contact points and carefully chosen details help you enjoy the ride without losing that cruiser character.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 12

• Screens: useful when a weekend ride includes faster roads as well as quiet country lanes. A screen helps reduce wind pressure on your upper body, making it a practical addition to an R 12 used for longer outings rather than short urban hops.
• Protectors: intended to help limit damage to the areas they cover in a fall. For a cruiser used around town, parking manoeuvres and low-speed handling make protection worth considering alongside the more visible styling accessories.
• Levers: frequent clutch and brake use in stop-start traffic puts the focus on your hands. On an everyday R 12, changing levers is as much about comfortable operation at the controls as it is about the appearance of the handlebar area.
• Footrests: provide the support for your feet throughout a relaxed country ride. When weekend journeys become longer, these contact points deserve attention as part of your riding posture, rather than being treated purely as a way to change the bike’s look.
• Mirrors: help you keep track of following traffic through town and before overtaking on open roads. They also influence the silhouette of a cruiser, so a different design can change the R 12’s appearance around the handlebars.

For regular weekend escapes, focus first on wind protection and comfortable contact points. For mostly urban riding, give the controls and protective accessories more attention.
