Accessories for the BMW R 12 G/S

The BMW R 12 G/S has a classic enduro character that suits road rides as well as outings on unsurfaced tracks. Preparing it for that mix involves more than finding somewhere to carry your luggage. Protection and riding position deserve attention too, particularly when you switch between stretches of tarmac and riding on loose or uneven ground during the same trip.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 12 G/S

• Protectors and crash bars: worth prioritising when your routes regularly leave the tarmac. Uneven ground can make low-speed manoeuvres more awkward, and these accessories help protect the areas they cover against knocks or falls while you explore tracks away from the road.
• Windscreens: the road miles between trails can be a substantial part of a day's riding. A screen helps reduce wind pressure on your body during those stretches, making it a useful addition when longer road journeys feature alongside your off-road outings.
• Footrests and handlebars: these contact points matter when changing between seated and standing riding. For a track-focused setup, consider boot support and hand position together: changing one affects how the overall riding position feels when you get out of the saddle.
• Luggage cases: provide space for clothing and essentials on multi-day trips without carrying everything in a rucksack. When a journey includes both roads and tracks, keeping luggage volume close to your actual needs helps avoid taking unnecessary weight along for the ride.
• Levers: their shape and position influence how you operate the brake and clutch. They deserve consideration when your riding ranges from long road stretches to slow manoeuvres on tracks, where your hand movements and position on the bike can be quite different.

Accessory brands for this BMW include Puig, SW-Motech and Givi. Let your usual routes set the priorities: protection and riding position for tracks, or wind protection and luggage for longer road trips.
