Accessories for the BMW R 12 nineT

The BMW R 12 nineT is a retro-styled roadster suited to weekday town riding and weekend runs along winding roads. Those two uses suggest different priorities: protection and practical controls matter in daily traffic, while wind protection becomes more useful as the miles build up. Styling accessories offer another way to personalise the bike without making touring equipment the focus.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 12 nineT

• Screens: help reduce wind pressure on your upper body when a route includes faster roads. On a naked roadster, motorway links can make wind protection more valuable than it feels on a short ride through town or along sheltered country lanes.
• Protectors: help limit damage from minor knocks and stationary drops. They make particular sense for an R 12 nineT used every day, with regular parking and low-speed manoeuvres, rather than treating its exposed areas purely as an opportunity for visual changes.
• Levers and footrests: let you address the contact points that shape your riding position and control of the bike. For mixed town and country use, consider both frequent lever operation in stop-start traffic and how your feet are supported during longer outings.
• Mirrors and number plate holders: can alter the outline of the R 12 nineT while complementing its classic look. Mirrors also have a practical role in keeping track of urban traffic, whereas a different number plate holder changes the appearance of the rear end.
• Phone mounts: keep navigation directions in view when a weekend ride takes you onto unfamiliar roads. They can be equally useful for finding addresses around town, making them a practical addition even if long-distance touring is not part of your plans.

Start with the journeys you make most often. A daily town bike benefits from attention to protection and controls; regular longer rides give a screen a stronger claim on your accessory shortlist.
