Accessories for the BMW R 1200 GS

The BMW R 1200 GS is an adventure bike used for touring, exploring country roads and heading beyond the tarmac. The right accessories depend on how you balance those rides. Luggage and wind protection matter on long road journeys, while protection and a comfortable standing position become more relevant when your route takes in gravel tracks.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1200 GS

• Protection: protectors help shield exposed areas when you take your GS onto rougher ground. For riders mixing road miles with trails, they can help limit damage from knocks and low-speed tumbles rather than simply changing the bike’s appearance.
• Screens: wind protection deserves attention if touring means spending hours on motorways. Screen height and shape influence airflow around your helmet and upper body, but a clear view of the ground ahead also matters when riding uneven tracks.
• Panniers: carrying clothing and equipment on a multi-day trip calls for practical luggage space. When travelling with a pillion, plan room for both riders’ belongings while keeping the overall width manageable for manoeuvring and narrower tracks.
• Footrests: a secure platform becomes particularly useful when standing up on gravel sections. Footrest position also affects how tightly your knees are bent on the road, making this an area worth considering for longer days in the saddle.
• Handlebars: bar dimensions and position affect your reach to the controls. A GS used for both road touring and trail riding needs a riding position that works seated and standing, without making you stretch awkwardly through your arms or back.

Choosing accessories for your R 1200 GS version

The BMW R 1200 GS has changed over the years, and the 2000-2012 and 2013-2018 versions do not always take the same parts. Protectors, screens and handlebar components are examples that will not fit every year. Choose your bike’s year on this page to see only the accessories that fit your version.
