Accessories for the BMW R 1200 GS Rallye

Long road journeys and detours onto unpaved tracks call for different priorities on the BMW R 1200 GS Rallye. As an adventure bike, it suits riders who want to combine both, so luggage capacity is only part of the picture. Wind protection, room for a pillion and support when riding standing up all help shape a useful accessory setup.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1200 GS Rallye

• Luggage: gives clothing and riding essentials a dedicated place on trips lasting several days. For two-up touring on the GS, carrying luggage away from the pillion seat helps leave that space available for your passenger rather than a stack of bags.
• Protectors and crash bars: help shield exposed areas from knocks and low-speed falls. They deserve attention when your routes include loose tracks, or when a fully loaded touring bike needs manoeuvring through awkward parking spots at the end of the day.
• Screens: help manage airflow on motorway stretches and longer days on tarmac. On an adventure bike used across mixed terrain, the aim is to balance shelter while seated with a clear view of the ground ahead on slower sections.
• Footrests: provide the support beneath your boots as you switch between sitting and standing. If trail riding is a regular part of your GS outings, this contact point matters for your stance and freedom to move around on the bike.
• Mobile phone mounts: give your phone a dedicated position for navigation on unfamiliar back roads and touring routes. Having a pre-planned itinerary in view is useful on journeys with frequent turn-offs, while keeping the phone separate from your packed luggage.

For mostly road-based touring, start with luggage and wind protection. If unpaved tracks feature regularly, give equal thought to protecting exposed parts and supporting a comfortable standing position.
