Accessories for the BMW R 1200 R

The BMW R 1200 R is a roadster suited to everyday journeys, winding roads and weekends away. How you split your riding between those uses makes a difference to the accessories worth fitting. Keeping bulk down makes sense around town, while longer trips put wind protection, luggage space and a comfortable riding position higher on the list.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1200 R

• Screens: worth considering when motorway stretches are a regular part of your journeys. On a naked roadster such as the R 1200 R, a screen helps reduce wind exposure, making it a practical addition for longer days rather than just a styling change.
• Protectors: can help limit damage from a low-speed drop. They make particular sense on a BMW used for daily riding, where parking manoeuvres and moving through confined spaces are part of the routine.
• Luggage: cases give you somewhere to carry overnight essentials without relying on a rucksack. For weekends with a pillion, space for two people's belongings becomes more important than it would be on a solo afternoon ride.
• Handlebars: hand position matters when your riding mixes town traffic with winding country roads. This is an area to consider when tailoring the R 1200 R's riding position, especially if you spend several hours at a time in the saddle.
• Footrests: your feet need a useful support position on twisty roads, but your leg position also matters over longer distances. Footrest choice is therefore part of setting this roadster up for both shorter outings and touring.

Choosing parts for your R 1200 R's year

The R 1200 R has changed over the years, with versions covering 2006-2008, 2009, 2010-2014 and 2015-2018. Parts such as luggage, mirrors and screens therefore do not necessarily fit every version. Choose your bike's year on this page to see only the accessories that fit your R 1200 R.
