Accessories for the BMW R 1250 R

The BMW R 1250 R is a naked roadster suited to weekday commuting, winding-road outings and weekends away. Those different roles call for different accessories. A rider covering regular motorway miles may value wind protection, while someone planning overnight trips will have more reason to add luggage. Start with how you actually use your R 1250 R rather than fitting everything at once.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1250 R

• Windscreens: useful when getting to your favourite roads involves a stretch of motorway. On a naked roadster, a screen helps reduce wind pressure on your upper body, making it a worthwhile addition when short rides give way to longer days in the saddle.
• Crash protectors and crash bars: help limit damage from a low-speed drop. For an R 1250 R used around town, that makes them a practical consideration for the less glamorous parts of riding, such as manoeuvring into a parking space or negotiating a tight garage entrance.
• Footpegs: provide an important point of contact when linking bends, as well as support during extended seated riding. They deserve attention if your BMW has to serve both as a weekend road bike and as transport for longer journeys.
• Panniers: give you somewhere to carry clothing and overnight essentials without relying on a rucksack. They make particular sense when taking the R 1250 R away for a weekend, especially if you are travelling with a pillion and packing for two.
• Tail tidies: change the appearance of the number plate mounting area, which is clearly visible on a naked bike. They suit an R 1250 R build focused on its roadster looks rather than extra carrying capacity.

For mixed commuting and leisure riding, tackle the discomfort or inconvenience you notice most often first; add touring luggage when your trips start to demand it.
