Accessories for the BMW R 1250 RS

The BMW R 1250 RS brings together two sides of road riding: enjoying a winding route and covering longer distances. As a sport tourer, it lends itself to weekend rides as well as trips with luggage and a pillion. The most useful accessories support that balance, addressing wind protection, riding position and carrying space rather than focusing on appearance alone.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1250 RS

• Screens: wind protection becomes a bigger consideration when a day on the RS includes long motorway stretches. Think about the coverage you need for touring alongside your view of the road from your normal riding position, rather than judging a screen by its height alone.
• Protectors: these help limit damage to the areas they cover if the bike goes over. For an RS used on trips, they are particularly relevant to parking and low-speed manoeuvres with luggage, where losing your balance can turn a simple stop into a dropped bike.
• Footrests: secure foot support matters on twisting roads, while leg position becomes more noticeable over a full day in the saddle. Their shape and placement are worth considering when setting up the RS for a mixture of more spirited road riding and longer tours.
• Panniers: carrying clothes and overnight essentials on the bike avoids relying on a rucksack throughout the journey. For two-up touring, planning space for both riders and distributing the load sensibly helps keep luggage organised and clear of the pillion’s seating area.
• Phone mounts: a practical addition when your phone provides navigation on unfamiliar touring routes. Positioning matters on the RS: directions should be easy to see without obscuring the instruments or interfering with the handlebars. Set up the route before getting under way.

A touring-focused RS benefits from attention to wind protection and luggage first. For shorter rides on winding roads, concentrate more on your riding position and contact points.
