Accessories for the BMW R 1300 GS

The BMW R 1300 GS is an adventure bike used for long-distance touring, winding roads and trips beyond the tarmac. Accessories make most sense when they reflect that mix: luggage for nights away, wind protection for motorway stretches and foot support that works both seated on the road and standing on the pegs along tracks.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1300 GS

• Screens: long motorway sections put wind protection high on the list for a touring GS. A screen helps redirect airflow away from your upper body, while its height needs to work with your own height and normal riding position, rather than simply being as tall as possible.
• Luggage: cases give clothing and overnight essentials a dedicated place on weekend breaks and longer tours. For two-up trips, keeping bags off the pillion seat is particularly useful: your passenger needs that space, and luggage should be planned around travelling together.
• Protectors and crash bars: these are worth considering when your GS journeys include unpaved tracks, uneven stopping places or slow manoeuvres away from the road. They help limit damage to the areas they cover from minor knocks or a low-speed fall.
• Footpegs: moving between seated road riding and standing on tracks changes how you support yourself on the bike. The shape and supporting surface of the pegs influence how your boots sit, making them relevant to a GS used on mixed-surface routes.
• Levers: a touring day can involve town traffic, repeated clutch use and braking through a string of bends. Lever shape affects how your gloved fingers meet the controls, so comfort at the bars deserves attention alongside luggage and wind protection.
