Accessories for the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy

The BMW R 1300 GS Trophy is an adventure bike suited to long road journeys and exploring beyond the tarmac. Preparing it for that mix involves more than adding luggage. Wind protection matters on motorway miles, while foot support and protection against knocks become more relevant on trails. The accessories worth prioritising depend on where you spend your riding time.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy

• Footrests: These support your feet whether you are sitting through sweeping bends or standing on an unpaved track. For mixed riding on the GS, the contact area and the position of your legs deserve attention, especially over a full day.
• Windscreens: A screen helps manage airflow around your upper body during motorway stretches and open-road touring. Height and shape matter when balancing shelter on long journeys with a clear view of the ground ahead as you venture onto trails.
• Protectors and crash bars: These add protection against knocks and can help limit damage in a low-speed fall. They are particularly relevant when manoeuvring the GS with luggage or tackling uneven tracks, where a trip involves more than straightforward road miles.
• Panniers: Luggage makes multi-day touring more practical, with room for clothing and essentials when riding solo or with a pillion. If your route also includes narrow tracks, consider the width added to the bike rather than focusing only on carrying space.
• Levers: Lever shape and reach affect how your fingers rest on and operate the controls. On a GS used for both touring and trails, that contact matters when switching from steady road riding to slow manoeuvres, particularly with gloves on.

For mixed-surface trips, think about your riding position as a whole. Foot support and access to the controls need to work together, both seated and standing.
