Accessories for the BMW R 1300 R

The BMW R 1300 R is a road-going naked bike suited to everyday journeys and outings on winding roads. It can also lend itself to weekends away with luggage. The right additions depend on how those rides fit together: longer connecting stretches put wind protection higher on the list, while commuting brings frequent use of the controls and parking manoeuvres into focus.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R 1300 R

• Screens: help deflect airflow on the motorway stretches between more interesting roads. On a naked bike such as the R 1300 R, the useful balance is between the coverage you want for longer journeys and retaining an uncluttered roadster appearance.
• Levers and footpegs: deserve attention when your riding mixes stop-start traffic with winding country roads. Comfortable lever operation matters during repeated urban use, while secure foot support is worth considering for a bike that doubles as a commuter and a weekend ride.
• Crash bobbins and bars: can help limit damage if the bike tips over at a standstill. They are particularly relevant when your routine involves city parking, moving the R 1300 R around a tight garage or making frequent stops along a route.
• Panniers: give clothing and other overnight essentials somewhere to go without carrying everything in a rucksack. For a roadster used both during the week and on short tours, luggage capacity should reflect how much those trips actually require.
• Number plate holders: offer a way to change the rear-end finish, a visible part of this naked bike’s outline. Their role is primarily visual, unlike a screen or luggage, which addresses a practical need on longer rides.

For weekends with a pillion, plan luggage around their needs too, leaving room to get on the bike and use the passenger footpegs comfortably.
