Accessories for the BMW R1300RT

The BMW R1300RT is a touring motorcycle suited to long days on the road, whether you travel alone or with a passenger. That sort of riding puts wind protection, luggage space and day-to-day protection high on the list of useful additions. A short ride and a week away ask different things of the bike, so it makes sense to start with how you actually use yours.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R1300RT

Accessories for this bike are most useful when they make time in the saddle or the practical side of a journey easier. The following types cover the main needs of road touring without assuming that every rider packs or rides in the same way:

• Screens: on a long motorway run, airflow matters more than it might on a brief ride. A screen gives you a way to consider how much shelter suits your riding position and your usual routes, particularly if your journeys involve sustained road speeds.
• Luggage: cases give you somewhere to organise what you need for a few days away, rather than carrying everything in loose bags. They are especially relevant when travelling two-up and making room for both people's clothes and essentials becomes part of planning the trip.
• Crash protection: stops and slow manoeuvres are part of touring too, from parking with luggage aboard to turning the bike around between rides. Crash bars and similar protective parts are worth considering if those everyday moments are on your mind as much as the miles between them.
• Protectors: these offer another way to look after exposed areas during regular road use. They can make sense alongside broader crash protection when you want to focus on particular parts of the R1300RT, rather than treating every journey as a need for the same setup.

If most of your riding is on fast roads, a screen may be the first thing to consider. For trips with a passenger or several days' worth of belongings, luggage is likely to shape your plans more.
