Accessories for the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200R XR1200X

The Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200R XR1200X brings a sporty feel to the Sportster family. It is a bike to enjoy on the road, whether that means a regular ride across town or an afternoon on winding lanes. Those different journeys shape which accessories are worth considering. Rather than focusing on luggage for long-distance touring, it makes sense to look at protection for exposed areas, ways to manage road spray and parts for ongoing maintenance.

What riders usually fit to the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200R XR1200X

• Protectors: the most prominent accessory type for this model. They are particularly relevant when a ride combines slow manoeuvres around town or in car parks with time on twisting roads. Depending on the item, a protector can help look after a vulnerable area while leaving the XR1200X’s road-focused character intact.
• Mudguards: worth considering if your Sportster does more than fair-weather outings. Their role is to limit the spray thrown up from wet or dirty roads. That can make a difference on a routine journey as well as on a Sunday ride when the weather changes before you get home.
• Filters: useful to keep in mind when planning maintenance, especially if the bike sees steady use rather than occasional outings. They address a different need from protection or a mudguard: keeping on top of routine care, not changing how you ride the bike through the bends.

The accessories on this page are for the Sportster 1200R XR1200X from 2011 to 2013. Think about where yours spends most of its time: in town, out on country roads or doing a bit of both. That helps put these three accessory types in context.
