Accessories for the Husqvarna FE 501

The Husqvarna FE 501 is an enduro bike at home on tracks and rough ground. On that sort of ride, exposed parts, slow manoeuvres and the work involved after a day out matter more than carrying luggage. The most useful additions therefore tend to support off-road riding and make it easier to look after the bike between outings. What you fit depends, too, on whether your rides stay on the trails or include stretches of road between them.

What riders usually fit to the Husqvarna FE 501

• Protection: rocks, ruts and narrow passages can put exposed areas of the FE 501 in harm’s way. Protective parts make particular sense for technical trails, where knocks and low-speed tumbles are part of what you need to prepare for.
• Levers: clutch and brake control matter when you are picking a line slowly or riding standing up. Levers are also exposed in a fall, so they are a practical part of an enduro-focused set-up rather than simply a cosmetic change.
• Stands and side stands: a useful support makes stops and post-ride jobs less awkward. After a muddy or dusty outing, it is easier to clean the FE 501 and check its wheels and chain when the bike is properly supported.
• Screens: if your outings include longer connecting stretches, a screen can address the wind you encounter away from the trails. It is a consideration for that mixed use, rather than a priority for slow, technical ground.
• Mirrors: these are worth considering when a day’s riding involves roads between off-road sections. Being able to see what is behind you matters on those links, even if your main reason for taking out the FE 501 is the trail itself.

For a bike used chiefly off road, protection and levers are a sensible place to start. Stands serve the time between rides, while screens and mirrors become more relevant as road links take a larger part in your plans.
