Accessories for the Kawasaki KLV1000

The Kawasaki KLV1000 is an adventure touring motorcycle suited to everyday journeys, weekends on country roads and longer trips. That range of uses puts wind protection, comfort and luggage ahead of purely cosmetic changes. A bike used mainly for commuting has different priorities from one regularly carrying a pillion and several days’ worth of kit, so start with the riding you actually do.

What riders usually fit to the Kawasaki KLV1000

• Screens: Motorway stretches can make wind pressure tiring, particularly when they form a large part of a touring day. A screen helps manage airflow around your upper body. Consider coverage from your normal riding position rather than judging its height from photographs alone.
• Crash protectors and bars: Low-speed manoeuvres and parking with luggage are part of travelling on the KLV1000. Protection can help limit damage to exposed areas if the bike tips over, making it relevant to road touring rather than just riding away from the tarmac.
• Panniers: Carrying clothing and everyday essentials on the bike avoids spending a long journey with a backpack on your shoulders. For two-up trips, plan space for both riders and keep items needed at stops accessible without having to unpack everything.
• Handlebar accessories: Hand position affects how your arms and shoulders feel over a full day. This area deserves attention on a KLV1000 that moves between stop-start traffic and longer road journeys, where you hold the same riding position for extended periods.
• Levers: Frequent braking and clutch use around town make lever shape and reach worth considering. For a bike that also covers touring miles, assess how your fingers rest on the controls while wearing your usual riding gloves.

Before a longer two-up journey, try your luggage arrangement on a short ride. Check that it leaves both of you room to get on, get off and move comfortably.
