Accessories for the KTM 525 EXC Racing

The KTM 525 EXC Racing is an enduro bike suited to trails and technical off-road riding. That puts different demands on its accessories from those of a bike used mainly for longer road journeys. Protection matters when the route gets rough, while the feel of the controls matters through slow, awkward sections. If a day’s riding also includes stretches of road between trails, it is worth thinking about visibility there too.

What riders usually fit to the KTM 525 EXC Racing

The most useful choices reflect how an enduro ride actually unfolds, from picking a line through obstacles to getting to the next trail:

• Protectors: narrow tracks, stones and rutted ground can put exposed parts of the bike in the path of knocks and scrapes. Protectors make sense if your rides regularly take you through that sort of terrain, where preparing for contact is more relevant than adding equipment for long-distance road comfort.
• Levers: slow sections call for frequent, careful use of the clutch and brake. Paying attention to your levers is particularly worthwhile when you need to make small adjustments to your pace over uneven ground, rather than holding a steady speed for miles at a time.
• Mirrors: a trail ride may start or finish with a road section. Mirrors help you keep track of traffic behind you on those connecting miles, when you are sharing the road with other vehicles instead of concentrating solely on the ground ahead.
