Accessories for the KTM 990 Adventure S

The KTM 990 Adventure S is an adventure bike suited to journeys that mix tarmac and tracks. Where a ride might include long road sections as well as loose or muddy ground, exposed areas of the bike, control at the handlebars and protection from spray all deserve attention. For a bike from 2006 to 2008, the most useful additions depend on the riding you do: a day exploring tracks places different demands on it from a long road trip.

What riders usually fit to the KTM 990 Adventure S

• Protectors: a sensible starting point if your rides regularly leave the tarmac. Stones, mud and low-speed tumbles can be harder on exposed parts of the bike, so protection matters most when the surface becomes unpredictable.
• Handlebar accessories: worth considering on an adventure bike ridden seated on the road and, at times, standing on tracks. The position of your hands plays a part in how naturally you manage those changes during a full day in the saddle.
• Mudguards: useful when wet tracks or loose ground send spray and dirt up from the wheels. They are also relevant if you keep riding the Adventure S through rainy days rather than waiting for dry conditions.
• Mirrors: particularly relevant on routes that move between tracks and public roads. Once you are back among traffic, a clear view of what is happening around you becomes part of the journey again.
• Filters: an area to think about if dusty tracks form a regular part of your rides. A bike used across different surfaces calls for attention to maintenance as well as the accessories you see and touch.

Covers and blankets are another option for protecting the bike while it is parked between rides. Whether your Adventure S spends more time touring on the road or exploring tracks can help you decide which additions to prioritise.
