Accessories for the KTM 990 Super Duke R

The KTM 990 Super Duke R is a sports-focused naked bike, well suited to winding-road rides and outings where the riding itself is the main attraction. Accessories should reflect that use: some wind protection for the journey out, protection for exposed areas, and controls that suit the way you sit and move on the bike.

What riders usually fit to the KTM 990 Super Duke R

• Screens: motorway miles on a naked bike put wind exposure into perspective, particularly when they separate you from your favourite roads. A screen can offer some shelter for those stretches, making it a useful consideration even when touring is not your main aim.
• Protectors and crash protection: these help protect exposed parts if the bike tips over or falls. For a Super Duke R used on twisty roads and occasional track days, they deserve consideration ahead of cosmetic changes, while recognising that no protection can prevent every kind of damage.
• Handlebars: the riding position needs to work both through a sequence of bends and on the less engaging miles between them. Handlebar choice is a way to address how your arms and wrists sit, rather than focusing solely on the bike’s appearance.
• Levers: repeated braking and clutch use on winding roads make the contact between fingers and controls particularly relevant. Lever shape is worth considering if you want a more comfortable grip with your riding gloves, especially when the same ride also includes stop-start town traffic.
• Tail tidies: a common styling choice for a sporty naked, these change the appearance of the number plate mounting area. They suit a build focused on the bike’s outline, but should be treated as a visual alteration rather than a handling upgrade.

Let your regular route set the priorities: wind shelter for longer motorway links, or controls and protection when most of your riding revolves around bends.
