Accessories for the Triumph Speed 400

The Triumph Speed 400 is a retro-styled naked roadster suited to weekday commuting and weekend rides on winding roads. Those two uses call for slightly different priorities. Around town, protection and comfortable controls matter most; once you head further afield, managing wind pressure and feeling settled on the bike become more relevant.

What riders usually fit to the Triumph Speed 400

• Windscreens: a useful addition when your commute extends beyond urban streets or your weekends involve longer stretches of open road. A screen can help divert airflow away from your torso while keeping the Speed 400 closer to its understated roadster appearance than a touring-style setup.
• Protectors and crash bars: worth prioritising on a bike used for regular town journeys, with frequent parking and low-speed manoeuvres. They can help limit damage in a minor fall. For this naked roadster, the aim is to protect exposed areas without letting protection dominate its classic outline.
• Levers: repeated clutch and brake use in stop-start traffic makes the way your fingers meet the controls particularly noticeable. On a daily-use Speed 400, lever shape deserves as much attention as the finish, rather than treating this purely as a styling change.
• Footpegs: foot support becomes more noticeable when you leave the traffic behind and start linking bends. They are a key contact point between you and the Speed 400, making them relevant to how settled you feel during a ride, not just how the bike looks.
• Number plate holders: an option for riders concentrating on the Speed 400’s clean, classic styling. Changing the plate holder can tidy the visual presentation of the rear, making this a focused detail for a restrained roadster build rather than a comfort-led modification.

For predominantly urban riding, start with protection and controls. If your Speed 400 regularly takes you out of town, wind protection and the points where you contact the bike deserve greater emphasis.
