Accessories for the Yamaha SR400

The Yamaha SR400 is a classic-style roadster suited to everyday journeys through town and unhurried rides along country roads. Accessorising it is often about balancing practical comfort with a look that respects its retro character. A bike used mainly for commuting will benefit from a different approach to one taken out for leisurely weekend rides, particularly when it comes to wind protection and the controls you use most.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha SR400

• Screens: A screen helps deflect airflow away from your upper body when an SR400 ride takes you beyond town. It is a useful addition for longer stretches on open roads, while its size also affects how prominently it changes the classic front-end styling.
• Protectors: On an SR400 used for daily urban journeys, these help protect the areas they cover from minor knocks or stationary drops. Their practical value comes into focus when your routine involves frequent parking stops and manoeuvring in tight spaces.
• Mirrors: Mirrors have a noticeable influence on this Yamaha's retro silhouette, as well as providing a view of following traffic. For town riding, a clear rearward view matters when moving between lanes or preparing to turn off a busy road.
• Levers: These provide the contact points for operating the brake and clutch. If your SR400 is your weekday transport, finger comfort deserves attention: repeated stops at junctions and slow-moving traffic mean you use these controls far more often than on a relaxed country ride.
• Number plate holders: These offer a way to alter the presentation of the rear end when styling is your priority. On a classic-looking roadster such as the SR400, the plate mounting is one of the smaller details that can influence the overall appearance.

For a mixture of commuting and weekend outings, consider wind protection and control comfort before purely visual changes. To retain the retro feel, treat the mirrors, front end and rear styling as parts of the same design.
