Accessories for the Yamaha TDM 850

The Yamaha TDM 850 suits riders who use the same bike for weekday journeys, winding roads and longer trips. Its versatile, road-focused character makes riding comfort and carrying space useful priorities. The right starting point depends on how you spend your time aboard: regular motorway miles put wind protection higher on the list, while overnight stops make luggage more relevant. There is little reason to build your everyday set-up around a trip you rarely take.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha TDM 850

• Handlebars: a different bar shape can help tailor your riding position for the TDM's mix of commuting and touring. Reach and height matter when you spend hours on the road, particularly if your current position leaves your arms stretched out rather than comfortably relaxed.
• Protectors: worth considering for a TDM used in town throughout the week or manoeuvred around unfamiliar parking areas on a trip. They help limit damage to the areas they cover in a fall, making them a practical addition for those low-speed mishaps.
• Screens: useful when a weekend ride starts with a long motorway stretch or your commute involves exposed main roads. A screen helps redirect airflow around you; on a touring-oriented TDM, the coverage in relation to your height and seated position deserves particular attention.
• Luggage: cases provide room for clothing and everyday belongings, whether you are heading away for a few nights or riding to work. For a TDM doing both jobs, base your carrying needs on the items you regularly take rather than an occasional heavily loaded holiday.

If most of your mileage is on open roads, start with riding position and wind protection. When overnight trips become a regular part of using your TDM, carrying space moves up the priority list.
