Accessories for the Yamaha XJ900

The Yamaha XJ900 is a road bike well suited to covering distance, whether on everyday journeys or longer rides. That mix of uses makes protection a sensible place to start when considering accessories. Regular stops and parking bring their own risks, while sustained road use gives you reason to look after exposed areas. The accessories listed here focus on those practical needs, rather than changing what you use the XJ900 for.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha XJ900

Think about the moments away from the open road as well as the miles themselves. A bike used for commuting may be parked and moved by hand frequently; on a longer trip, you may be doing those same manoeuvres with luggage. Two types of accessory are particularly relevant:

• Crash protectors and guards: these are worth considering if you regularly manoeuvre the XJ900 into a parking space or through a tight area at low speed. They are intended to help limit damage if the bike goes over while stationary or moving slowly. For a road bike used on longer journeys, they address an easily overlooked part of the trip: handling the bike before setting off and after arriving, sometimes with luggage on board.
• Protective parts: these offer a way to look after particular exposed areas of the XJ900 during regular road use. They make sense if your riding combines short, frequent journeys with days spent covering greater distances. Rather than focusing on a low-speed tip-over, they let you give attention to specific parts of a bike you intend to keep riding regularly, without shifting its road-going purpose.

Puig is among the accessory brands available for the XJ900. Deciding whether low-speed mishaps or protection of particular areas matter more to you is a useful starting point when choosing what to fit.
