Accessories for the Yamaha YZ450F

The Yamaha YZ450F is a motocross bike made for riding away from tarmac. On dirt, repeated changes of direction, uneven ground and the occasional knock put different demands on accessories than everyday road riding does. It makes sense to focus on exposed areas and the controls you use throughout a session, rather than fitting parts intended for long-distance comfort or carrying luggage.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha YZ450F

For this bike, the most useful additions relate to protection and how the handlebar controls feel as you move around on the bike. The following accessory types serve different purposes, so the riding you actually do matters more than adding everything available:

• Protectors: stones, mud and minor knocks are familiar parts of riding on a motocross track. Protectors help shield the areas they are designed for, particularly when a session includes rutted corners, close manoeuvres and changes of line that leave parts of the bike exposed.
• Levers: braking and clutch control are repeated tasks when approaching a bend, adjusting your line or pulling out of a slower section. Suitable levers keep those inputs within reach as you stand up, sit down and shift your weight around the YZ450F, helping the controls feel consistent through a ride.
• Mirrors: these are not normally the focus of a motocross set-up. They become more relevant if you use the bike somewhere you need to check behind you while manoeuvring, rather than solely for riding on a track.

Think about the setting in which you ride most often. Protection and easy access to the controls have a clear role on dirt; a mirror addresses a different, more specific need.
