Accessories for the Yamaha YZF-R9

The Yamaha YZF-R9 is a sports bike suited to winding roads and track days, so riding position and protection are sensible starting points when choosing accessories. Your hands, feet and upper body all need to work together as you move around the bike. If your R9 also handles everyday journeys, comfort away from a tucked riding position deserves attention too.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha YZF-R9

• Screens: help take wind pressure off your upper body on open roads. On the R9, consider how much coverage you need when sitting up between corners as well as when tucked towards the tank; screen height and profile influence both.
• Protectors: are a practical consideration for an R9 used on the road and at track days. They can help limit damage to the areas they cover in a fall, so focus on which parts you want to protect rather than simply fitting more pieces.
• Levers: reach and shape affect where your fingers sit when operating the brake and clutch. Repeated use on a winding route makes a comfortable hand position particularly valuable, helping you work the controls without an awkward stretch.
• Footpegs: provide support as you shift your weight and change position through corners. Secure footing matters on track, while longer road rides also make knee bend and sustained comfort important considerations for the way you set up your R9.
• Tail tidies: change how the number plate sits within the bike’s rear-end appearance, putting more visual emphasis on its sports styling. They are a cosmetic option for an R9 that spends time on the street as well as on weekend rides.

For mixed road and track use, treat the levers, footpegs and screen as a connected setup: changing your riding position also changes how you sit behind the screen.
