Puig 4.0 Folding Levers

Puig 4.0 folding levers are the same length as a stock lever, 160 mm, but with a hinged tip: if the bike goes down or the lever takes a knock, it folds upwards instead of bending at the base. It is the 4.0 shape for riders who want the familiar feel with some insurance against the ground.

What happens when the bike goes down

A rigid lever that hits the tarmac works against its own pivot: it bends, snaps or strains the master cylinder mount. With the hinge, much of that force goes into folding, and the lever can be pushed back into place by hand. It makes a difference in very ordinary situations: the bike toppling over in a car park, a low-speed drop while manoeuvring or a slide on a dirt track. In those moments, keeping your brake and clutch is what lets you carry on riding.

Compared with the folding-extendable lever, this one keeps a fixed 160 mm length, designed for whole-hand use, and has one moving part fewer. If you need a shorter lever because you have small hands or brake with two fingers, the extendable version gives you that margin; if the stock length suits you, the folding lever is the simpler option.

After a knock, check

• That the tip returns to its position and sits firmly, with no side play.
• That the adjuster still clicks through its positions; if it is damaged, the 4.0 dial is sold separately among the Puig lever spare parts.
• That the lever does not touch the grip or the fairing anywhere in its travel.
• That the adapter and the master cylinder have not twisted round the handlebar.

Colours and fitting

Like the rest of the 4.0 range, the folding lever is machined from a solid block of aluminium and anodised in nine colours, from black and titanium to lilac, and the dial can be ordered in another shade if you want contrast. Its part number is 4110 for the brake and 4210 for the clutch. To fit it you need the Puig adapter for your bike, the same one used by the fixed or short levers, so you can change shape later without touching it. Every shape and generation is compared on the Puig levers page.
