Highsider Tail Lights

The Highsider tail lights are universal LED units for the position and brake lights, some with indicators and a number plate light built in, to replace the stock tail light or rebuild a trimmed rear end. They come with red, smoked and translucent lenses, in formats from mini to mudguard-mounted.

How many lights each unit carries

• Position and brake, like the Mini, Stop, Stripe, Module 1, Boston or Malibu: the simplest set-up, wired to the position, brake and earth cables.
• With a number plate light, like the Little Number1, Number1 or Monster Universal, or with the plate holder built in, like the Old School Type 3, 5 and 6.
• 3-in-1: position, brake and indicators in one piece (Rocket Classic, Spark, Ton, Apollo Classic, Shorty Fin or Little Bronx). They also need the left and right indicator wires, and being LEDs they can make the indicators flash too fast.

Mounting formats and voltage

Some units bolt to the tail, others are made to sit on the mudguard, there are versions with a bracket and adhesive strip (the Tri-LED) and even a 3-in-1 for the bar end, the Ventura-Trek. There are also variants for ATVs and the 6 V Module 1, meant for older 6-volt electrics: do not mix voltages, because a 12 V light on a 6 V system barely glows and a 6 V one on 12 V burns out.

What to combine it with

A small tail light calls for a rear end built around it. If yours has no number plate light or indicators, complete the set with a Highsider number plate holder and compact Highsider turn signals; and if you are moving to LEDs, check there for the fix against fast flashing.
