Accessories for the BMW K 1600 GTL

Long-distance touring is the natural territory of the BMW K 1600 GTL, whether you are covering motorway miles or exploring quieter roads with a pillion. Accessories for this kind of riding need to address more than appearance. Wind exposure, comfort at the controls and protection during parking manoeuvres all deserve attention when your plans involve full days on the road rather than short urban journeys.

What riders usually fit to the BMW K 1600 GTL

• Windscreens: Sustained motorway riding makes airflow a priority on the GTL. Screen height and shape influence where the air reaches the rider, so your normal touring posture matters here. The aim is to manage wind exposure over long stretches, rather than simply change the bike’s profile.
• Protection: Two-up touring involves plenty of stops, from roadside breaks to manoeuvring outside overnight accommodation. Protectors help limit damage from knocks or scuffs to the areas they cover. Their role is particularly relevant to the parking and low-speed manoeuvres that punctuate a day’s travel.
• Levers: Even a motorway-heavy itinerary includes town traffic, junctions and winding roads where you work the controls more often. Lever shape and reach affect your contact with the brake and clutch, making them worth considering for a GTL ridden for hours at a time in touring gloves.
• Covers and blankets: A cover serves a different purpose from protection fitted for riding. It lets you cover the GTL while parked, whether you leave it outside during an overnight stop or put it away between trips. That makes it relevant to how you store the bike as well as where you tour.

Start with what you notice most over a full riding day. For regular two-up trips, consider the stops and overnight parking arrangements alongside comfort on the move.
