Accessories for the BMW R850 GS

The BMW R850 GS is an adventure bike suited to a mix of road riding, everyday journeys and trips away. That range of uses makes a difference when choosing what to fit: carrying luggage for several days calls for a different setup from riding mainly around town. The useful additions are the ones that reflect where you ride and what you take with you.

What riders usually fit to the BMW R850 GS

For a bike that might handle a weekday journey and a longer ride at the weekend, these accessories serve distinct purposes:

• Mirrors: moving between busy streets and open roads means keeping an eye on traffic behind you in different riding situations. Mirror choice is particularly relevant if you want a rearward view that works from your usual position at the handlebars.
• Protection: varied routes and stops with luggage can mean more manoeuvring at low speed. Protectors help shield exposed areas from minor knocks or a stationary drop, whether you are parking at your destination or setting off again after a break.
• Stands and side stands: these are worth considering when the GS is used for both daily riding and trips away. A suitable support makes parking and preparing the bike less awkward, particularly when you are sorting out what to carry before a longer ride.
• Panniers and cases: luggage gives you room for clothing and daily essentials without relying on a rucksack. On the R850 GS, it is especially useful for touring, when spending hours on the road makes carrying everything on your back less appealing.

BMW R850 GS versions by year

The R850 GS has changed over the years, with versions listed here for 1998, 1999 and 2000–2001. As a result, items such as mirrors and protectors do not necessarily fit every version. Choose your bike’s year on this page to see only the accessories that fit yours; this matters particularly when replacing a part already fitted to the bike.
