Accessories for the Ducati SuperSport 800 SS

A winding-road ride and a weekday journey through town ask different things of the Ducati SuperSport 800 SS. As a sports bike, it makes riding position and room to move particularly relevant when choosing accessories. For mixed road use, the useful starting points are how you sit on the bike, which areas you want to protect and the maintenance it needs, rather than changing its appearance for the sake of it.

What riders usually fit to the Ducati SuperSport 800 SS

• Handlebars: the relationship between your hands, upper body and seat matters when negotiating bends, but also when working through slow traffic. On an 800 SS used for both, handlebar choices are worth considering as part of your riding position. The aim is a comfortable reach for town riding without making it awkward to move on the bike through a sequence of corners.
• Protectors: taking a sports bike into town means parking, low-speed manoeuvres and frequent stops as well as open-road riding. Protectors help shield the areas they cover against scuffs and minor knocks. That gives them a practical role on a road-going SuperSport; they are not something to consider only when preparing for circuit use.
• Filters: these belong on the maintenance side of preparing your Ducati, rather than the ergonomics or appearance side. If your 800 SS mainly comes out for weekend rides, occasional use still needs to be considered alongside its servicing requirements. Treat a replacement filter as a maintenance choice, rather than assuming it will deliver a performance increase on its own.

Think about the length of your usual rides when assessing comfort: a position that feels fine on a short urban journey may feel different after a morning on winding roads.
