Accessories for the Indian Chief

The Indian Chief is a cruiser suited to unhurried road rides, weekend outings and getting around town. That mix puts the emphasis on where you make contact with the bike and on keeping a clear view of traffic behind you. Styling matters on a custom motorcycle too, but useful additions should suit the way you actually ride your Chief, rather than appearance alone.

What riders usually fit to the Indian Chief

• Footpegs: on leisurely rides out of town, comfortable foot support deserves as much thought as appearance. Footpegs are one of the Chief’s main contact points, so consider the support they offer under your usual riding boots alongside a finish that complements its cruiser style.
• Levers: a Chief used for commuting spends more time at traffic lights and in queues than one reserved for weekend rides. With frequent use of the controls, a lever shape that suits your hand matters more than choosing a design purely for its custom look.
• Mirrors: town riding calls for a useful view behind before changing lanes, while open-road outings mean keeping track of approaching traffic. Mirrors also help define the Chief’s handlebar profile, so balance their appearance with the view you get from your normal riding position.
• Exhausts: the exhaust plays a visible part in the Chief’s custom styling. For a bike you enjoy taking out at weekends, it can be part of a more personal look. Consider how it sits visually with your other accessories rather than treating it as a separate styling decision.

For everyday riding, put control feel and rearward vision first. If your Chief mainly covers longer leisure routes, give particular thought to how your hands and feet are supported throughout the ride.
