Accessories for the Kawasaki GPZ1100

The Kawasaki GPZ1100 combines a sporting approach to road riding with a touring role. That makes it a bike for more than a quick blast: a route might involve a long motorway stretch before reaching the roads you came to ride. When choosing accessories, the riding position and protection deserve attention for different reasons. One affects how comfortably you spend those hours on the bike; the other helps look after exposed areas during the stops and manoeuvres that come with road trips.

What riders usually fit to the Kawasaki GPZ1100

• Handlebars. On the GPZ1100, the aim is a riding position that works on both the journey out and the twistier sections. Handlebar choice affects arm position and how you support your upper body, so a more upright stance is not the only consideration. Relaxed shoulders and room to move your elbows matter when covering distance, while a natural reach to the bars helps you stay comfortable as the road demands more changes of direction.
• Protectors. Touring brings regular fuel stops, unfamiliar parking spaces and low-speed manoeuvres, all of which make protection a practical consideration for the GPZ1100. Depending on the part, protectors help shield the area they cover from rubbing or minor knocks. Think about the contact and exposure involved in your usual trips rather than treating every protector as protection against every kind of fall.

For longer days away, start with how you sit on the bike and any discomfort you notice. If your riding position already suits you, focus instead on protecting the areas most exposed during your trips.
