Accessories for the Kawasaki KLR 650

The Kawasaki KLR 650 is a trail bike suited to both roads and unsurfaced routes. It can be used for everyday riding as well as trips that involve luggage and time away from the tarmac. That range of riding shapes the accessories worth fitting: carrying kit for several days, dealing with long stretches on the road and protecting the bike on rougher ground are different priorities. Thinking about your usual routes makes it easier to decide which ones matter most.

What riders usually fit to the Kawasaki KLR 650

For this bike, luggage, weather protection and parts suited to riding on tracks all have a clear purpose. You can focus on the demands of a particular trip without treating every accessory as essential:

• Luggage cases: give you room for clothing and travel kit without putting everything in a bag on the seat. They are particularly useful when a ride includes several days on the road and detours onto tracks.
• Protectors: help shield exposed areas from scuffs and impacts when the KLR 650 leaves the tarmac. They make sense if your routes regularly include stony surfaces or awkward ground.
• Screens: help manage airflow during road miles. With the upright riding position of a trail bike, that can make a difference on the longer stretches between off-road sections.
• Lighting: provides options for riders whose trips continue into the evening or who often set off in poor light. It is worth considering alongside when you ride, rather than just the terrain you cover.
• Crash bars and guards: add protection in low-speed falls, whether you are manoeuvring with luggage or negotiating a difficult section of track. They serve a different purpose from packing for the journey, but can be just as relevant to mixed-surface riding.

A KLR 650 used for short outings on tracks may call for a different starting point from one loaded for a longer tour. Let your most frequent rides guide what you fit first.
