Accessories for the Kawasaki Z500

Commuting during the week and heading out on winding roads at the weekend call for slightly different accessories. The Kawasaki Z500 is a naked bike suited to both, so it helps to separate changes that address wind exposure, protection and riding position from those chosen mainly for their looks.

What riders usually fit to the Kawasaki Z500

• Screens: worth considering when your commute includes faster roads or your weekend rides take you further afield. On a naked Z500, a screen helps divert airflow away from your torso. Its height and shape influence the balance between wind protection and a discreet appearance.
• Protectors and crash protection: useful priorities for a Z500 that regularly encounters tight parking spaces and low-speed manoeuvres. These accessories aim to limit damage to the areas they cover if the bike tips over, rather than making it immune to damage in every fall.
• Levers: stop-start traffic means frequent clutch and brake use, making the way your fingers meet the controls particularly relevant. For a Z500 used across town and on twisty roads, lever choice is about that contact with the bike, not simply a different finish.
• Footpegs: your feet provide an important point of support when positioning yourself for a bend. On the Z500, consider that riding support alongside leg comfort for the daily commute, especially when the same bike handles both short journeys and longer outings.
• Number plate holders: a natural option when the aim is to personalise the Z500's naked-bike appearance. They change how the plate sits within the overall look of the rear end, making this a styling choice rather than an answer to wind exposure or riding comfort.

For predominantly urban riding, focus on protection and contact with the controls. With more open-road mileage, wind protection and your riding position become stronger priorities.
